Jamie Brown - SSJCA Cricketer of the Year

Posted on : 30-05-2010 | 0 Comment(s) have been left.

Illawong Menai Kookaburra’s are extremely proud and would like to congratulate Jamie Brown on winning the SSJCA Junior Cricketer of the Year Award for the 2009-10 season. This has been Jamie’s 8th season with the Illawong Menai Club, in this time he has won 5 SSJCA finals, including this years 16A’s premiership and been awarded the Kookaburra’s Junior Cricketer of the Year. The SSJCA Cricketer of the Year is an award that I am sure he is proud to have won and a reward for the way he approaches his cricket. Some of Jamie’s achievements this year are:

  • Jamie was selected to represent the SSJCA in the U15 Weblin Shield, a team which he Captained well this season.
  • Jamie was selected for the Sutherland District Cricket Club Green Shield as well he filled in for the Sutherland 5th Grade team
  • Jamie was a member of the NSW Combined High Schools U15’s Team that won the Australian U15’s CHS Championship.
  • Jamie scored 235 runs @ 33.57. It is always a pleasure to watch Jamie bat no matter where in the order.
  • Jamie’s bowling is stronger then ever, his left arm medium pace has always been hard to get away but his developing talent as a left arm off spinner was the difference in some games for us this season. He took 21 wickets @ 9.76 for the season which has won Jamie both the SSJCA 16A’s Best Bowling Average and Aggregate awards.
  • The opposition always know to respect Jamie’s fielding ability from his boundary throws to his safe catching hands in close. These skills enabled him to take 5 catches and 2 run outs.

Jamie is passionate about cricket and has a strong desire to continually improve his game to the highest level. Jamie gained maturity as a cricketer during his first year in U16’s and is no doubt looking forward to next season. Congratulations Jamie on your success this season!! You are a worthy winner of the SSJCA Junior Cricketer of The Year Award and all of us at Illawong Menai are proud of your achievements.

This year it was won by the Engadine Dragons CC, the fifth time in 10 years they have collected the trophy.

The Final series has now concluded with many great games and performances on show.  From the excitement of the 16A’s where the underdogs Illawong Menai defeated the minor premiers Engadine through to the 10F’s where Sylvania Heights defeated a gallant Miranda, the kids of the Shire enjoyed their time in the playing field.  Win or lose, playing in a final is a time to treasure, and everyone will have learnt from the experience and come back stronger next year.

We are compiling the match reports and photos from this special day.  Any photos, videos or reports you would like posted and part of the history of the day, send them through to photos@ssjca.com.au
